[f. mod.L. Portūn-us (a. L. Portūnus name of the god of harbours) + -ian.]
a. adj. Of or pertaining to the Portūnidæ, a family of swimming crabs, or to the typical genus Portūnus. b. n. A crab of this family (Cent. Dict. 1890). So porˈtunid = b; porˈtunoid a., akin in form to the portunians.
